I'm Expecting!

Having a Baby - My experience of my daughters birth in the year 2000.
Having a baby is something so wonderful. I started getting ready for my baby before I got pregnant. I knew that I had to do whatever I could to prepare myself for this most interesting part of my life. First and most important was to eat as healthy as I could because there were many habits that I knew needed to be broken. I also knew that getting excercise would help me stay strong. There are all kinds of things that can go on when you get pregnant. Some are diabeties, and high blood pressure to name a few. Luckly that was not even an option for my well planned pregnancy. It was important to me as well as my baby to give her the best place to live.
I'm Expecting!
When I suspected that I might be pregnant it was April 21st. The test was showing two lines but one was slightly light. The next day I decided to take another test. At this point I was feeling anxious and hoping that the test was correct. The test confirmed that I was in fact pregnant. I was shocked and after several tests that I had taken and wanted badly to be a mom. I made a doctors appointment to confirm one last time.
The Date I Found Out
It was April 28th and at first I felt happy but was hoping the test were correct. My weight was 112 pounds. I had to pee in a cup so that they could confirm the pregnancy. A lot was done on this day. I given a pap test, she checked my breathing and felt my stomach. Then she took my blood pressure and calculated my due date. I was told not to run anymore during the pregnancy but to brisk walk. I would also be needing a TB shot and a blood test.

Easter Chicks

Easter Chicks-The shells are
made from fondant. The
grass is made from buttercream.

I used a plastic Easter Egg shells for
this project. I prefer to use the shorter
wider side of the egg.
First you roll the fondant out it is okay
if it is not round. Make sure you add some
cooking grease over the egg. You just need
enough so the fondant will not stick.
Place the egg down and put the fondant
over it. You can move it around to form
over the plastic egg. Trim the excess off
and then start cutting V shapes to form
thecracked shell. If you have jagged edges
use your fingers to smooth and fix any
areas. It will need to dry in the egg form
for a least a few hours. Once dried you can
pop in out by being careful not to destroy
it's shape. Once dried let it dry without the
egg mold. For the chicks choose any color
and apply it to the fondant. Make sure to
leave some fondant for the eyes and beak.
Add food color to the fondant for the eyes
and then make a seperate batch for the beak.
Since the eyes and beak are small you will not use
much fondant. For the eyes get a little bit in your
hands and roll it around. Size does not matter as long
as you are happy. For the beak-take a flat piece of
fondant with your fingers and shape it into a diamond
shape. Gently fold it over but not all the way unless
you want the beak to be closed. You will need to
apply the eyes and beek with edible glue. Let
everything dry and once the egg shell is ready you
can apply edible glue to the inside of the egg. Now
add the baby chick inside the egg. For the
cupcakes-scoop out a little piece just big enough to
fit your suprise candy. Cover the cupcake with
frosting and then place the shell on top.

Sugar can be fun to work with from flowers to boarders to cakes. All it takes is a little creativity and patients.

Bayou Wildlife Park in Alvin, Texas by Maria

If you like to get out and don't mind
smelling a little gamy you should check
out Bayou Wildlife Park. It is always fun
and helps you to relax. We have been many
times and there is always an animal or two
always doing something unusual. Morning
seem to be the best time to visit the park.
Don't forget to purchase several buckets of
food for about $2.00 each. They do have a
picnic area but I prefer not to eat there and
usually stop off before we head to the park.
The tram ride is a fun way to learn and feed
the animals. Some animals at the park
include llamas, long horns, ostrich, deers,
buffalo, and many that roam around freely.
